Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Shares Exciting Renovation Updates and Honors Michael Childers

The historic Palm Springs Plaza Theatre hosted an exciting event Sunday, giving the community an inside look at the ongoing efforts to restore one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

J.R. Roberts, president of the Plaza Theatre Foundation, provided a renovation update and honored famed photographer Michael Childers for his generous donation of historic photographs celebrating the theater’s Hollywood roots.

Guests were also treated to a special multimedia presentation by historian Jim Cook, who showcased the theater’s deep connection to Hollywood and its impact on Palm Springs’ glamorous reputation.

"You know, so much of what Palm Springs is today is the brand of its history," Cook said. "Palm Springs has always had a glamorous past and a strong connection to Hollywood. And the Plaza Theatre has pretty much been the ground zero. Starting in 1936, this was the living room."

The exciting renovation plans aim to preserve the Plaza Theatre’s rich history while preparing it for a vibrant new era of entertainment and community gatherings. Restoring the theater will allow it to once again be a cultural hub in downtown Palm Springs, celebrating its legacy while making it a centerpiece for future generations.
