Palm Springs Unveils New LGBTQ+ Civil Rights Monument

Earlier today, Palm Springs gave a special preview of a new civil rights monument honoring the LGBTQ+ community. The Pride Monument was unveiled at the Thompson Hotel's Whiskey Park Terrace, with organizers calling it a tribute to the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies across Greater Palm Springs. Speakers included Palm Springs Pride President and CEO Ron deHarte, Monument Board President Al Jones, and artist Jim Siedlecki, who designed the piece.

"Well, Palm Springs Pride did an open request for proposals in 2023. And my proposal was selected. So I've been working on this for the last two years. And it was really important to me that every element of this sculpture be undeniably connected to the LGBT community," Siedlecki shared.

Organizers say the sculpture will also serve as a symbol of hope and an educational tool for future generations.
