President Trump Marks 100 Days Amid Low Approval Ratings and Trade War Concerns

As President Trump reached his 100th day in office, he delivered a speech in Michigan, a key swing state he won in the November election. But new polling suggests a significant portion of Americans remain critical of his performance, especially regarding trade and immigration.

According to a recent NBC News poll, only 39% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of trade and tariffs. His signature economic policy is drawing growing concern from analysts. A new report from Apollo Global Management warns that the ongoing trade war with China could lead to “COVID-like shortages,” with container ships halting shipments to the U.S. and potential trucking disruptions. The firm also predicts a possible recession by summer.

Internationally, the trade war has had ripple effects. In Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney was elected amid a wave of anti-American sentiment, influenced in part by Trump's tariff strategy.

Meanwhile, immigration remains a central issue for the administration. On Monday, Trump signed three new executive orders targeting immigration enforcement. The administration also highlighted a sharp 95% drop in illegal border crossings in March compared to the same time last year.

However, controversy surrounds recent deportations involving U.S. citizen children. Three American-born children were reportedly flown to Honduras with their undocumented mothers. The administration claims the families chose to stay together, but migrant rights groups dispute that, saying the women felt they had no choice.

Pressed on the issue, the administration's border official reiterated the commitment to prioritizing high-risk cases, but stated that anyone in the country illegally remains subject to enforcement.
