Assistance League Hosts Baby Shower for Military Moms at 29 Palms
A special baby shower brought joy and comfort to 30 women connected to the 29 Palms Marine Base on Saturday. The event was hosted by the Assistance League Coachella Valley and held at Heritage Palms Country Club, offering support to active-duty military women and spouses of active-duty personnel who may be far from home during a pivotal moment in life.
NBC Palm Springs' Chloe Carlson emceed the afternoon, sharing her perspective as a military wife and mother—making her a fitting voice for the occasion.
Each mom-to-be received a thoughtfully curated layette, filled with both handmade and store-bought essentials. “There are bibs, hats, sweaters, afghans, quilts, and baby books,” one organizer explained. “Plus, items we purchase like baby monitors, nail clippers, sound machines, and pack and plays.”
The baby shower also included curated libraries for each newborn, ensuring families walked away not only with supplies but with stories to share in the years ahead.
This event is just one of several charitable efforts by the Assistance League. Their programs include Operation School Bell, which provides schoolchildren with clothing and supplies for the academic year.
As these military moms prepare to welcome their little ones, the community’s message was clear: even far from home, you are not alone.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
