Mojave Desert Land Trust Launches Desert Defense Fund to Combat Rollbacks
Environmentalists focused on the Mojave Desert are gearing up for what they describe as a battle against sweeping rollbacks that threaten protected lands across the region.
The Mojave Desert Land Trust has announced the creation of the Desert Defense Fund, a new initiative designed to protect the region’s fragile desert ecosystems, restore native plant life, and advocate for stronger conservation laws.
The launch comes amid concerns over deep federal cuts and layoffs, including staffing reductions in the National Park Service, which many say could jeopardize environmental oversight and long-term preservation efforts.
“This fund is our way of taking action,” the organization said in a statement. “We’re responding to growing threats by putting boots on the ground and pushing back against efforts to weaken environmental protections.”
Supporters say the fund will provide critical resources for on-the-ground projects such as habitat restoration, wildlife protection, and public education efforts to preserve the natural character of the Mojave Desert.
As federal support wavers, groups like the Mojave Desert Land Trust are stepping up to ensure desert landscapes, biodiversity, and cultural resources remain protected for generations to come.
