Mother and Child Hospitalized After Shooting in Indio; Suspect in Custody

A mother and her young child are recovering in the hospital following a shooting in Indio that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

Indio police say the incident happened just before 1 p.m. on DeGlette North Street. The boy was critically injured and was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition. His mother was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center and underwent surgery. Her current condition has not been publicly updated.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody in Indio shortly after the shooting. However, the identity of the suspect and the possible motive have not yet been released.

The investigation remains active, and police say more information will be shared as it becomes available.
