Trump Administration Reinstates Visas for UNLV International Students After Policy Reversal
Thousands of international students, including those at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), are breathing a sigh of relief following a major policy reversal by the Trump administration.
President Trump has reversed a decision that initially led to the revocation of student visas for individuals who participated in protests or had prior legal issues. UNLV confirmed that all seven of its international students affected by the move have now had their visas reinstated.
The students were part of a broader national sweep in which more than a thousand international student visas were revoked across the country. The decision drew swift criticism from civil rights advocates, universities, and legal experts who warned the policy could violate due process and chill student activism.
In response to the backlash, the Trump administration announced it would drop the legal fight tied to the immigration enforcement measure. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since stated it is developing a new policy on how immigration records will be reviewed going forward.
UNLV and other institutions are now working to support international students as they navigate an often uncertain legal landscape. University officials say they are committed to ensuring all students—regardless of citizenship status—have the ability to pursue their education without fear.
