Windy Weekend Ahead for Coachella Valley with Rain and Cooler Temperatures Incoming

Coachella Valley residents are enjoying another warm and sunny day, with highs reaching 93°F—just a bit above the seasonal average of 91°F. This trend of slightly elevated temperatures is expected to continue into Friday before the region experiences a dramatic shift in weather conditions over the weekend.

A storm system moving through Southern California will bring strong winds, rain, and much cooler temperatures starting Saturday evening. Sustained winds are forecasted to reach up to 40 mph, with gusts peaking in the 50–60 mph range in wind corridor zones such as the San Gorgonio Pass and Whitewater area. Drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, should exercise caution if traveling through these areas.

In Desert Hot Springs and similar communities, sustained winds will likely remain in the 30 mph range, with gusts climbing into the 40s and 50s. While winds will ease slightly on Sunday, breezy conditions are expected to persist into early next week.

Rainfall is also on the horizon, with Sunday bringing about a quarter-inch of rain to lower elevations. Mountain communities could see more significant precipitation, with up to half an inch of rain and snow levels dropping to around 5,000 feet. Peaks above 6,000 feet could receive 1 to 3 inches of snow, potentially impacting mountain travel and recreational plans.

By Sunday, daytime highs in the desert are expected to fall into the 70s, marking a significant cooldown compared to the earlier part of the week. The combination of wind, rain, and cooler temperatures means residents should plan ahead and stay weather-aware through the weekend.
