Stormy Start to the Week in Coachella Valley, but Triple-Digit Heat Coming Soon
Coachella Valley Weather Update: From Storms to Scorching Heat
Hello, Coachella Valley! Hope you're having a great start to your workweek — although it's shaping up to be a wet and windy one. We're experiencing a stormy beginning, with Monday bringing gusty winds, scattered rain, and unseasonably cool temperatures.
Today’s high won’t come close to our usual 91°F average for this time of year. We're significantly cooler, but don’t get too used to it — big changes are on the way.
Gusty Winds and Rain Showers Through Tonight
On Sunday, residents experienced strong winds and scattered showers, and those conditions are continuing into today and tonight. Areas like Desert Hot Springs and the Whitewater Wind Corridor will continue to see gusty winds through Tuesday, while winds should lighten to a breezy level for places like the San Gorgonio Pass by midweek. On the desert floor, expect breezy conditions to stick around through Tuesday.
Rain is still in the forecast this evening. Weather models show scattered cells likely hitting areas like Indio and La Quinta around 6:30 p.m., with heavier bands of moisture moving through by 9:00 p.m. Desert Hot Springs could see significant rainfall late this evening, so be cautious if you’re traveling — wet roads may persist into the night. One more wave of rain is expected around 11:30 p.m., gradually tapering off by early Tuesday morning.
From Chilly to Scorching: Major Warm-Up Ahead
After this unseasonably cool and stormy start, temperatures are set to climb rapidly. The Coachella Valley will remain in the 80s through Tuesday, but by Friday, we're expecting a return to triple-digit heat. That’s a major swing in just a few days, so plan accordingly — especially if you’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo tonight or have outdoor plans this coming weekend.
7-Day Forecast Highlights:
Monday–Tuesday: Breezy with rain showers; highs in the 80s
Wednesday–Thursday: Drying out with light winds; warming trend begins
Friday–Weekend: Triple-digit temperatures return
Be sure to stay weather-aware and safe — especially if you're heading out on the roads this evening.
