Washington, D.C. to Host 2027 NFL Draft, President Trump Announces
The National Football League’s premier offseason event is heading to the nation's capital. On Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump announced that Washington, D.C. will host the 2027 NFL Draft, marking a major milestone for both the league and the city.
The announcement was made from the Oval Office, with NFL officials and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser in attendance.
“It’s going to be beautiful,” said President Trump. “It’s going to be something nobody else will ever be able to duplicate. It’s going to be very exciting.”
The NFL Draft has evolved into a massive three-day fan experience, held at large, outdoor venues. In 2025, the draft is scheduled for Green Bay, Wisconsin, which saw over 200,000 attendees on opening day. In 2026, it moves to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. According to reports from Axios, the 2027 draft is expected to take place on the National Mall, putting D.C.’s iconic landmarks in the national spotlight.
“The NFL bringing this event to the Nation’s Capital will help us fill hotel rooms and restaurants,” said Mayor Bowser, adding that fans from all 50 states will come to enjoy the city’s rich history and attractions.
The announcement comes amid plans to relocate the Washington Commanders from Landover, Maryland back into the District at the former RFK Stadium site. That proposal still needs approval from the D.C. Council.
The 2027 NFL Draft is set to be a historic event, further solidifying D.C. as a premier destination for major sporting spectacles.
