Coachella Valley Forecast: Mild Start to the Week Before Weekend Heat Wave Hits

Coachella Valley residents are enjoying clear skies and cooler-than-normal temperatures, but that calm stretch won’t last for long. A significant heat wave is on the horizon, with highs expected to climb near 109 degrees by Saturday.

Today’s conditions remain pleasant, with highs in the mid-80s—about five degrees below the seasonal average of 91. Clear skies will continue across the valley, although some clouds are expected around the mountain perimeter. Winds remain mostly calm for now, under 10 miles per hour, though breezes will increase later in the day.

The marine layer continues to affect areas west of the San Gorgonio Pass, stretching all the way to the coast, bringing overcast conditions to regions like Santa Monica. Meanwhile, the Coachella Valley remains dry and sunny. Radar shows no precipitation over the valley or Southern California. Light showers and thunderstorms, however, are expected to continue east of the region, particularly in parts of southeastern San Bernardino and eastern Riverside County extending into Arizona.

Lows tonight will fall into the mid-60s under clear skies. On Tuesday, expect a high of 87 in Palm Springs and 88 in Indio. The warmup continues Wednesday with highs nearing 90, and by Thursday, the region will see upper 90s under bright sunshine.

The real heat kicks in Friday and Saturday. Temperatures are expected to climb into the triple digits, peaking Saturday at 107 in Palm Springs and 108 in Indio. While most record highs are out of reach, Thermal could match its record of 107 set back in 1960.

Wind gusts may reach up to 25 miles per hour in desert and pass areas by midweek but will taper off as the weekend approaches. Moisture levels will drop significantly by Friday, with surface humidity falling to around 10 percent.

Looking ahead, a disturbance to the north may offer some relief next week, nudging temperatures down from their weekend peak.
