Denzel Washington and Spike Lee Reunite for 'Highest to Lowest'; Marvel Drops a Thunderbolts Surprise
Two Oscar winners are reuniting for their fifth collaboration. Actor Denzel Washington and director Spike Lee, who previously worked together on Mo' Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man, are joining forces once again for a new film titled Highest to Lowest.
The film is a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s classic crime thriller High and Low, and it offers a gritty, modern spin on the original. Washington stars in the lead role, and a new teaser offers glimpses of the film’s themes: fame, failure, wealth, love, and the internet’s relentless attention. Highest to Lowest opens in select theaters on August 22 and will stream on Apple TV Plus starting September 5.
Meanwhile, Swedish hard rock band Ghost has just scored its first number one album on the Billboard 200 chart. Their album Skeleta marks the first hard rock album to top the chart in over four years. The last was AC/DC’s Power Up, which briefly held the top spot in 2020.
And in superhero news, Marvel Studios has quietly dropped a big reveal for its next ensemble film Thunderbolts. Marketing materials now include the phrase The New Avengers, hinting at a possible reshuffling of the franchise’s core team. While there’s no official comment from Marvel, fans are already speculating about what this means for the future of the MCU.
