Midweek Forecast: Triple Digits Ahead!
Happy Tuesday, Coachella Valley! While today’s high of 80°F felt warm enough for a comfortable afternoon run, it remains well below the average for early May. That brief reprieve from the heat won’t last long, though, as a sharp shift in temperatures is on the horizon.
A strengthening ridge of high pressure is expected to build over Southern California later this week, gradually replacing the current onshore flow. This weather pattern change will bring a dramatic increase in daytime highs, starting Thursday. While Wednesday’s forecast remains near seasonal averages, temperatures are projected to climb quickly—well above normal—for the remainder of the week.
By Saturday, forecasters expect scorching highs between 105°F and 109°F, a stark jump from the region’s typical low 90s for this time of year. Although these readings aren’t expected to break historical records, they are significantly hotter than usual and may feel intense for residents who haven’t acclimated to summer-like conditions just yet.
The good news? This heatwave looks to be brief. Temperatures are forecast to dip back into the 80s by next Tuesday, offering a welcome cool-down after the sweltering weekend. Still, with triple-digit heat looming Friday through Sunday, now’s the time to prepare: stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and check in on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
So, while the thermometer may spike, relief is on the way—just a few days of early summer heat before more moderate spring weather returns.

Salton city resident Abraham Feinbloom is expected to take a plea deal in the murder case of 17 year old T’Neya Tovar. Under the plea deal obtained by the Imperial County Criminal Courthouse, Feinbloom will plead guilty to one count of torture and voluntary manslaughter. According to court records, he is also expected to assist law enforcement in finding the rest of the victim’s remains.
