Trump Administration Offers $1,000 and Free Flights to Migrants Who Voluntarily Self-Deport
The Department of Homeland Security announced a new policy Monday offering financial incentives and travel assistance to unauthorized immigrants who voluntarily choose to leave the United States.
Under the initiative, migrants who elect to self-deport will be provided with a free airline ticket and a $1,000 stipend, which will be issued once their return to their home country has been confirmed through the CBP Home app. Officials say the program is part of a broader strategy by the Trump administration to reduce the number of undocumented individuals living in the country without resorting to forced removal.
According to DHS, the stipend will not be paid until there is verified confirmation that the individual has returned to their country of origin. The department says this system is intended to ensure compliance and reduce administrative strain on immigration enforcement resources.
The move is being promoted as a voluntary and humane option for individuals who may be seeking to avoid extended legal proceedings or detention. Critics, however, are expected to question the effectiveness and ethical implications of offering cash incentives for departure.
The Trump administration has maintained that stricter immigration enforcement remains a key policy focus and that programs like this one aim to encourage compliance while avoiding legal entanglements.
