Coachella Community Voices Student Needs at Public Hearing Hosted by CET
Community leaders, students, and nonprofit organizations gathered in Coachella for a public hearing hosted by the Center for Employment Training (CET). The event focused on identifying and addressing the challenges faced by students in pursuit of career training and economic stability.
The hearing provided CET students with the opportunity to speak directly to decision-makers and share the most significant obstacles they encounter. Among the most common issues cited were transportation, child care, and housing—critical needs that often prevent students from completing their training programs.
"Today was an important day to ensure that the voice of the community is being heard," said one CET representative. "We received over $2 million in funding, and we’re reinvesting that back into the community through partnerships with other nonprofits."
Lorena Favela, a community advocate, emphasized the importance of providing nontraditional pathways to career success. “Not everyone can afford or complete a college degree,” she said. “Programs like plumbing, HVAC, and administrative certification give people real, viable opportunities to earn a living wage.”
The event also served as a networking opportunity, allowing students to connect with nonprofits offering resources and support. CET plans to continue collaborating with the community to ensure their students have access to the tools they need to transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to the region's workforce.
