Carne Asada Takes Center Stage: Asada Fest Coming to Downtown Indio May 10
A sizzling new event is coming to downtown Indio this spring, and it’s all about celebrating one of the most beloved dishes in Latin cuisine—carne asada.
On May 10, Center Stage will host the first-ever Asada Fest, a lively food and music festival dedicated to the flavors, culture, and community surrounding this iconic dish. Presented by Chavez Jessup GMC, the event promises great food, live entertainment, and a festive atmosphere the whole community can enjoy.
Miguel Ramirez-Cornejo, Economic Development Director for the City of Indio, says the goal is to continue welcoming people back to the heart of downtown. “Just like our successful Barbecue Festival, this event is about bringing people together—good food, great music, and a place to hang out and have fun,” said Ramirez-Cornejo.
Fifteen food vendors will participate, and there’s one delicious requirement: every vendor must include a carne asada-themed item on their menu. From carne asada fries and burgers at Papa Heads to carne asada crepes at Gabino’s Creperie, the creativity will be on full display. Even birria specialists like Outside of the Masa will offer classic carne asada tacos served Sonoran-style.
And it’s not just the food that will draw a crowd. The festival will feature live performances, including a set by legendary Latin American cumbia group La Sonora Dinamita, sure to get attendees dancing as the sun sets on Indio.
Asada Fest is the latest in a series of events at Center Stage meant to highlight the revitalization of downtown Indio, featuring new murals, businesses, and a renewed sense of community.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
