Vince Vaughn and Joe Manganiello Celebrate Family and Food in Netflix’s Nonas
In this week’s Agua Caliente Entertainment Report, brought to you by Agua Caliente Casinos, we’re celebrating moms—and nonnas—with the release of a touching new film on Netflix.
Nonas, Italian for “grandmothers,” is based on a true story and explores the powerful bonds of family, friendship, and food. The film stars Vince Vaughn and Joe Manganiello, and we caught up with both actors in New York ahead of Mother’s Day weekend.
The story follows Joe Scarbella, played by Vaughn, as he tries to balance his career and personal dreams—specifically, opening an Italian restaurant in honor of his late mother. “Filmmaking is a lot like cooking,” said Vaughn. “It takes love, time, and detail. And just like food, it’s meant to be shared.”
Manganiello, who plays Scarbella’s loyal but tough-love contractor and best friend, added, “There’s this bromance. We fight, we make up. And yeah, men are terrible communicators. But at the heart of it, food is love.”
The film is directed by The Perks of Being a Wallflower’s Stephen Chbosky, and it's filled with mouthwatering visuals and emotional depth. Vaughn noted that audiences may shed tears and crave pasta all at once. “My girlfriend’s seen it three times and cries every time,” he said with a laugh.
The actors even shared their favorite Italian dishes—Vaughn swears by pizza, while Manganiello keeps it classic with carbonara.
Whether you’re grieving, healing, or simply hungry, Nonas delivers a heartfelt story about starting over at any age—with a big plate of comfort food and love on the side.
Nonas is now streaming on Netflix—just in time for Mother's Day.
