Palm Springs Hosts Blue Zone Community Kickoff Event This Thursday
The City of Palm Springs is ramping up its efforts to become a Blue Zone with a community kickoff event scheduled for this Thursday at the Festival Theater. Blue Zones are regions where people live significantly longer, healthier lives, and currently only five areas around the world hold the distinction. Palm Springs hopes to be the sixth.
The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will feature the unveiling of a community blueprint built from local resident feedback. The blueprint outlines strategies and initiatives designed to promote healthier living throughout the city.
Attendees will also hear from Dan Buettner, founder of Project Blue Zones and a leading authority on the subject. Buettner emphasizes the importance of collaboration across the public sector, businesses, schools, and community organizations to create an environment where making healthy choices becomes easier for everyone.
“If you want to create a Blue Zone environment in a place like Palm Springs, the public sector, restaurants, workplaces, and churches all have to work together to design a healthier community," Buettner said when the project was first announced earlier this year.
Residents interested in learning more about the initiative are invited to attend the event Thursday night at the Festival Theater in Palm Springs.
