Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz: Celebrate Buttermilk Biscuit Day, Chicken Dance Day, and More
The music means one thing on NBC Palm Springs: it’s time for the Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz, brought to you by Inland Empire Health Plan.
Wednesday, May 14, 2025, kicked off with the mouth-watering National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. A staple of Southern breakfast tables, this quick bread is heavier than a roll and loved for its soft, flaky layers.
Also on the calendar was National Dance Like a Chicken Day, a favorite in Wisconsin wedding halls and family parties across the country. Viewers were reminded of the classic steps: beaks, wings, tail feathers, then clap! Dressing up like a chicken is purely optional.
National Root Canal Appreciation Day also shared the spotlight. The holiday acknowledges the dental procedure that helps prevent infection and saves teeth, despite the internet conspiracy theories that occasionally swirl around it. The segment offered simple advice: just floss and brush.
Rounding out the day was Donate a Day’s Wages to Charity Day, encouraging everyone to give back. Jokes were made about modest TV salaries, but the spirit of community generosity took center stage.
The pop quiz tied into the theme of “wages.” The first question asked who, during the 2015 Oscars, famously advocated for wage equality. The answer was Patricia Arquette, recognized for her role in Boyhood.
The second question took music lovers back to 1973. Viewers were asked to name the Steely Dan song that references Las Vegas as “Lost Wages.” The answer? Showbiz Kids from the album Countdown to Ecstasy.
The segment ended with a fun twist as the hosts tried doing the chicken dance to Steely Dan’s music, capping off a lighthearted look at some of the day’s lesser-known but entertaining holidays.
