Water Wise Wednesday: Bulbine Named May’s Plant of the Month by Coachella Valley Water District
It’s Water Wise Wednesday, brought to you by the Coachella Valley Water District, and this May the spotlight is on the vibrant and adaptable Bulbine plant.
Lorraine Garcia from CBWD joined NBC Palm Springs to explain why Bulbine is an excellent choice for local landscapes. “It’s a succulent that’s very versatile,” Garcia said. “You can grow it in containers, use it as ground cover, or even as a border in succulent gardens.”
What makes Bulbine even more appealing is its bright yellow or orange flowers, which bloom seasonally and attract pollinators like butterflies and bees. “It’s definitely pollinator-friendly, which adds even more value to your garden,” Garcia added.
The plant is well-suited for Coachella Valley’s desert climate and is available at most local nurseries alongside other drought-tolerant, water-efficient plants.
For more information on the Bulbine plant and other water-wise landscaping tips, residents are encouraged to visit watersmartplants.com or the Coachella Valley Water District website at cbwd.org, where helpful guides and a succulents calendar are available.
Water Wise Wednesday continues to highlight sustainable plant choices to help Coachella Valley residents create beautiful, environmentally friendly outdoor spaces.
