College of the Desert Names Val Martinez as Permanent President After Nationwide Search
College of the Desert has officially named its acting superintendent to the permanent role.
During a special board meeting, the college’s Board of Trustees voted 3-2 to appoint Val Martinez as the ninth president of the institution. Martinez had been serving as acting superintendent while the college conducted an extensive nationwide search that lasted eight months.
The decision marks a major milestone for College of the Desert as it looks to move forward with stable leadership. Martinez is expected to be formally approved at a board meeting scheduled for Friday.
College officials expressed confidence in Martinez’s ability to guide the college through its next phase of growth and service to the Coachella Valley community.
Martinez will now transition from interim leadership to the permanent role, taking on responsibility for overseeing academic programs, student services, and community partnerships at one of the region’s most important educational institutions.
