Desert Wildlife Center Celebrates Grand Opening in Indio with Community Event
A new community resource for wildlife rescue and education is opening its doors in Indio. The Desert Wildlife Center celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially launching its partnership with Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies.
The free grand opening event will take place Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at 46500 Van Buren Street in Indio. The center will serve as both a rescue and rehabilitation facility for wild birds, reptiles, and mammals, and as an educational hub for residents of the Coachella Valley.
Officials say the mission of the center is increasingly important as development continues to encroach on natural habitats. “Local wildlife is facing growing threats as wild lands are converted into homes and commercial areas,” one organizer explained.
The Desert Wildlife Center will respond to calls about injured or displaced wildlife, with a focus on humane rescue and rehabilitation before releasing animals back into their natural environments.
