From Steam Engines to Dreams: Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebrates a Journey Through Time

This morning’s special coverage of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary continues with a nostalgic look at one of the park’s most iconic and historic landmarks: the Main Street Train Station. Tiani Jadulang is live on-site to explore the significance of this beloved staple with Mark Everett King Jr., former Disneyland Ambassador and current park spokesperson.

“Just a few minutes ago, you saw us in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle,” Tiani opens. “Now we’ve turned down the road to another place that holds deep meaning for many families — including mine — the Main Street Train Station.”

Standing just steps from where Walt Disney delivered his legendary opening day speech in 1955, Mark reflects on the historical weight of the area.

“This station is just feet away from the very spot where Walt said, ‘To all who come to this happy place, welcome,’” Mark says. “Back then, it was all just 660 acres. And today, the Disneyland Resort has grown into what you see now — Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, resort hotels, and the Downtown Disney District.”

The Disneyland Railroad has long been more than just a form of transportation — it’s a symbol of Walt Disney’s vision and passion for storytelling and innovation. For many families, it’s the first ride of the day and a quiet moment to take in the magic.

“To do a Grand Circle Tour of Walt’s original Magic Kingdom is the perfect way to start your day,” says Mark. “It sets the tone, especially during this milestone anniversary.”

As Disneyland marks seven decades of wonder, the focus isn’t just on what’s new, but also on honoring what has remained timeless.

“What excites me most is seeing guests take a step back and really soak in the history that lives here,” Mark shares. “Disneyland was born from Walt’s dream — a father wanting a place where parents and children could enjoy time together. That’s still what this park is about.”

Mark also touched on the emotional heart of the anniversary’s theme, “Celebrate Happy,” which was captured in a performance by the Jonas Brothers during the kickoff event.

As the segment winds down, Tiani reflects on her own childhood visits, saying, “I’m definitely hopping on the train today. It brings back so many memories of coming here with my family as a kid.”

The 70th anniversary isn’t just a look back — it’s a reminder that the magic of Disneyland lives on in every ride, every cast member, and every smile.

Tiani and Mark will continue sharing more magic later in the day, with extended coverage set for the midday show at 11 a.m. Stay tuned for more stories from the happiest place on earth.
