FBI Confirms Palm Springs Car Bomb as Domestic Terrorism; 29 Palms Scene Linked

A devastating explosion rocked downtown Palm Springs on Saturday morning in what the FBI has now confirmed was an intentional act of domestic terrorism. The blast occurred just before 11 a.m. outside the American Reproductive Center, directly across from Desert Regional Medical Center, killing one person and injuring four others.

Authorities say debris from the vehicle explosion spread across Indian Canyon Drive, damaging nearby businesses and shattering windows over a large radius. Eyewitnesses reported seeing body parts on the street and medical documents blowing through the air.

At a joint press conference, FBI Assistant Director Akil Davis said, “Make no mistake—this was an intentional act of terrorism,” adding that the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation. A related FBI operation took place in 29 Palms later in the day, and officials have confirmed it is connected to the Palm Springs bombing.

NBC Palm Springs reporters Caitlyn Kelley and News Director David Reese have been at the scene since the morning. Kelley described the initial chaos as “staggering,” with debris stretching across five lanes and the vehicle’s engine landing on the opposite side of the street.

Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills assured the community the threat has passed, but emphasized that this is the largest bombing investigation in Southern California in recent memory. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information to 1-800-CALL-FBI.

A follow-up press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday.
