Cyclists to Ride in Silence in Palm Springs to Honor Victims and Promote Road Safety

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, cyclists and supporters will gather at Ruth Hardy Park in Palm Springs for the annual Ride of Silence, a solemn global event that honors those who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roads.

Participants will begin gathering at 6:30 PM, with the silent ride set to begin promptly at 7:00 PM. The Palm Springs ride is part of a worldwide movement that originated in Dallas in 2003, following the death of cyclist Larry Schwartz, who was struck by a passing bus. Since then, the event has grown to include more than 200 cities across five continents.

Riders will travel slowly—no more than 12 miles per hour—in complete silence through Palm Springs streets. The event serves both as a tribute to victims and a statement calling for safer streets and increased awareness of cyclists’ rights to share the road.

The ride is free and open to all ages and skill levels. Helmets are mandatory, and participants are encouraged to use lights. Walkers may also participate by using the park’s loop trail in solidarity.

Organizers encourage the community to join in remembrance and to help advocate for safer conditions for everyone who uses public roads.
