Coachella Valley Swelters Under Triple-Digit Heat — Slight Weekend Relief in Sight

Coachella Valley Midweek Weather Update: Heat Peaks with Slight Relief Ahead

Happy Wednesday, Coachella Valley! You're halfway through the workweek, but the heat is just heating up. Today’s high will soar to around 106°F, making it about 10 degrees above the seasonal average for this time of year. While it's not a record-breaker, it comes dangerously close to the standing record of 111°F set back in 1967.

Looking ahead to Thursday, expect more of the same. Highs will range from 105°F to 109°F, continuing the trend of intense desert heat. A ridge of high pressure remains anchored over Southern California, keeping temperatures elevated across the region.

Some cooling is on the horizon, however — at least for the coastal cities, where a trough of low pressure pushing in from the north will begin to ease the heat. Unfortunately for the desert floor, this cooling will be more modest, offering only a slight drop in temperature by the weekend.

Wind conditions are also expected to shift starting Thursday. Sustained winds could reach 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph in areas like Desert Hot Springs and Whitewater. If you're commuting in or around those areas, plan for gusty conditions especially during the afternoon and evening hours on both Thursday and Friday.

By the weekend, highs are forecasted to dip slightly, reaching the upper 90s to low 100s on Saturday and Sunday. That means a small but welcome break from the week’s oppressive heat. Still, the desert remains hot, with temperatures likely returning to the triple digits by Sunday.

Here’s a glance at the 7-day forecast:

  • Wednesday: 106°F – Hot and sunny

  • Thursday: 107°F – Continued heat, windy afternoon

  • Friday: 106°F – Gusty winds persist

  • Saturday: 97°F – Slight cooling

  • Sunday: 101°F – Heat makes a comeback

  • Next Week: Triple digits likely to return

Stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and be mindful of those winds as you move through the rest of the week.
