FBI Searches Palm Springs Bombing Suspect’s Home; Neighbors Evacuated Amid Explosives Concerns

We continue our ongoing coverage of the weekend bombing in Palm Springs with new details emerging about the suspect and the federal investigation. Authorities have identified the suspect as 25-year-old Guy Barkis, whose garage contained boxes and multiple propane canisters — raising concerns that there may have been additional explosive materials on the property.

The FBI has been actively searching Barkis’s home since the incident, working to uncover any clues about his motives or the scope of his actions. As part of the investigation, neighbors living near the suspect’s home were told to evacuate out of an abundance of caution.

Jeanette, a resident who lives directly across the street from Barkis, described the moment her family learned they had to leave.
“It was Saturday, around 1:30 p.m., when the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department knocked on our door,” she said. “They explained there had been a bombing in Palm Springs that morning. We could turn on the news if we didn’t believe them. They said it was a mandatory evacuation.”

Jeanette and her family quickly left and found temporary shelter at an Airbnb in Joshua Tree.
“It was pretty shocking,” she added. “We didn’t know the guy at all. And then we find out we have to leave immediately.”

She also confirmed that the FBI had reviewed the footage from their home security cameras in search of any evidence related to the bombing.

Officials have not yet disclosed the full contents found inside the home or whether any additional threats were identified. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to piece together the events leading up to the bombing, which has already been declared an act of domestic terrorism by federal authorities.
