Fortnite Returns to Apple’s App Store After Five-Year Ban

Fortnite is back on iPhones and iPads.
After a five-year ban, Apple has reinstated the wildly popular video game to its App Store. The move comes after years of legal tension between Apple and Fortnite developer Epic Games.
The dispute began in 2020 when Epic Games sued Apple over its App Store policies—specifically Apple’s requirement that all in-app purchases go through its payment system. That lawsuit kicked off a major legal battle over app store rules and digital marketplaces.
This week, pressure intensified when a federal judge called on Apple to either return Fortnite to its App Store or provide a legal basis for keeping it off the platform. By Tuesday, both companies had filed a joint statement saying they had resolved that aspect of the dispute.
Shortly after, Fortnite reappeared on the App Store, signaling a new phase in the ongoing saga between Apple and Epic.
Gamers with iPhones and iPads can now once again download and play Fortnite—just in time for the game’s latest seasonal content.
