Trump Unveils $175 Billion 'Golden Dome' Missile Defense System

In a major national security announcement, President Donald Trump revealed his administration’s plans for the Golden Dome missile defense system—a multi-layered satellite network aimed at detecting and intercepting missile threats from space.

Speaking from the Oval Office alongside Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, the president said the initiative will “protect American families from the growing global threat of missile warfare.” First ordered back in January, the Golden Dome project is expected to cost approximately $175 billion and be fully operational before the end of Trump’s term.

An initial down payment of $25 billion is already included in the reconciliation bill currently advancing through Congress.

The project will be overseen by Air Force General Michael Geitle, who currently serves in the U.S. Space Force. Trump praised Geitle’s leadership and said he has “full confidence” in his ability to bring the project to life.

“This is not just a shield. It’s a statement,” President Trump said. “The United States will not be vulnerable. We will be prepared.”

While the White House did not release a specific launch date for the system, administration officials say deployment of early-stage satellite components could begin within the next 18 months.

Critics have already raised concerns about the cost, feasibility, and geopolitical implications of the program. However, Trump emphasized the strategic importance of a modern defense network in an increasingly unpredictable world.

“This is about staying ahead of those who wish to do us harm,” the president said.

More updates on the Golden Dome project are expected as the reconciliation bill moves forward in Congress.
