Desert Mirage High School Marching Band Qualifies For Disneyland Performance
The 70th anniversary celebrations at Disneyland continued Thursday with a special performance by the Desert Mirage High School marching band. Nearly 100 students from the Coachella Valley traveled to Anaheim to take part in the park’s Main Street Parade—many experiencing Disneyland for the very first time.
The school's award-winning music program was selected to perform after meeting a strict set of criteria. Music director Mr. Asbury explained that bands must submit a detailed video showing sound, uniform quality, marching ability, and overall presentation. The program earned its spot back in February and has spent months preparing.
The students performed six selections, including Disney favorites like “Let It Go,” “Under the Sea,” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Desert Mirage alum Adrian Martinez, who has participated in past performances, returned this year to support the students and offer advice.
“It’s hard to get there, first of all. Their hard work has paid off, obviously. It’s just go out, have fun, and be ourselves like we always do,” said Martinez.
For many in the group, it wasn’t just a musical achievement but a point of community pride.
“When we go, it’s bigger than just Desert Mirage High School,” said Asbury. “We are actually representing the valley.”
The band was scheduled to return home later Thursday evening. NBC Palm Springs congratulates the students and staff for a successful and well-earned performance.
