Indio Police Cite 21 Drivers in Distracted Driving Crackdown

Indio Police cited 21 drivers today for using their cell phones while driving, as part of a citywide distracted driving crackdown.

The enforcement operation was held at various locations around the city and was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Officers focused on identifying drivers violating the state’s hands-free law, which prohibits the use of handheld devices while operating a vehicle.

Despite numerous public warnings and educational campaigns, police say many drivers continue to use their phones behind the wheel—putting themselves and others at risk.

“Our main goal is to change dangerous driving habits,” a department spokesperson said. “This is about keeping everyone safer on the roads.”

Indio Police plan to continue these types of enforcement efforts in the coming months, emphasizing that road safety begins with focused, attentive driving.
