Cycle Gear President Talks Motorcycle Airbag Safety on Desert Living Now
As spring brings more motorcyclists onto the roads, safety remains a top priority. On today’s Desert Living, Stevan Popovich, President of Cycle Gear, joined the show to discuss Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and the growing impact of the national Airbag Save campaign.
Popovich shared three key safety tips for riders: stay present and undistracted, follow the rules of the road, and most importantly—gear up. “We emphasize being head-to-toe protected,” said Popovich. “That includes helmets, jackets, gloves, and boots—everything to keep riders safe and comfortable.”
Now in its second year, the Airbag Save campaign is gaining momentum, with sales and awareness of wearable motorcycle airbags increasing significantly. Popovich explained that these airbags are vests worn under jackets. Powered by predictive technology, the airbag deploys before impact—within 40 milliseconds—making it faster than the blink of an eye. This innovation is made possible by a computer algorithm that monitors rider movement in real time.
Progressive Insurance has partnered with Cycle Gear to help expand the campaign, bringing critical safety messaging to a wider audience. “Rider adoption is growing,” said Popovich. “People are curious, asking questions, and wanting to learn more—which is what it’s all about.”
Popovich also stressed the importance of rider education. “We’ve partnered with the Motorcycle Industry Council’s Ride With Us campaign to encourage new riders to take a class and ride responsibly.”
