Lilo & Stitch and Mission Impossible Top Memorial Day Box Office Picks
On this week’s Agua Caliente Entertainment Report, brought to you by Agua Caliente Casinos, Manny the Movie Guy takes us into a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend at the movies.
First up is Disney’s newest live-action remake: Lilo & Stitch. The beloved 2002 animated classic comes to life with newcomer Maya Kealoha as Lilo and director Chris Sanders returning to voice the mischievous Stitch. While many question the need for Disney’s live-action reboots, Manny says this version has its heart in the right place and honors the original’s family themes. “It’s not a copy-and-paste remake like The Lion King,” he adds, giving Lilo & Stitch three out of four Ohana kisses.
Also hitting theaters: Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, racing to stop a dangerous AI known as The Entity. Director Christopher McQuarrie weaves elements from past Mission Impossible films into this latest installment, which Manny describes as “self-congratulatory” in the first half but ultimately filled with stunning action, including underwater sequences and jaw-dropping stunts performed by Cruise himself. The runtime stretches to 170 minutes, and despite the word “Final” in the title, don’t expect a clean ending. Manny awards it three out of four “not the best, but not bad” kisses.
Whether you’re in the mood for heartwarming Ohana or high-octane action, this weekend has something for everyone.
