Couple Aids Injured E-Bike Rider in Palm Desert Crash on Monterey Avenue

Another frightening moment unfolded in Palm Desert, but it quickly turned into a story of quick action and community care.

According to witnesses, the rider of an e-bike lost control while traveling down Monterey Avenue, causing him to fall and sustain a head injury. As bystanders looked on, a couple driving by sprang into action.

Haley and her partner, Luis, immediately stopped their vehicle and rushed to the injured rider’s side. Haley, a phlebotomist, applied pressure to stop the bleeding while waiting for paramedics. “We were just driving by, and we saw the fall. He wasn’t moving, so we thought he was in shock,” Haley recounted. “I applied pressure, asked about blood thinners or daily aspirin, and helped ensure clotting.”

Haley’s quick response likely made a significant difference. Witnesses say the rider had a noticeable head wound and some injuries to his ear. First responders arrived shortly after to provide professional medical assistance.

This incident comes as Riverside County tentatively approved a ban on e-bikes using sidewalks, pedestrian overpasses, and underpasses. Authorities are reminding the public always to wear helmets while riding e-bikes and to follow all road safety rules.
