Six Victims Identified in Deadly San Diego Plane Crash; Pilot Was Music Executive Dave Shapiro

All six victims of yesterday’s tragic plane crash in San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood have been identified. The crash claimed the lives of the pilot, Dave Shapiro, a music executive with Sound Talent Group, and five others.

Among the victims was Daniel Williams, a drummer for a metal band, who was also aboard the ill-fated flight. Today, officials released the names of the remaining victims. Emma Huke of Orange County, a booking associate for Sound Talent Group, Kendall Fortner, an employee and San Diego State University graduate, Dominic Damien, a longtime friend of the pilot, and professional photographer Selena Kenyon were all tragically lost in the accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has reported that no problems were communicated by Shapiro to air traffic control, nor did he declare an emergency before the crash. Investigators have determined that the automated surface observing system (ASOS), which provides weather updates to pilots, was inoperative at Montgomery Airport due to an unrelated power surge. However, air traffic control relayed weather conditions from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar prior to Shapiro’s approach to the airport.

It’s also been confirmed that the aircraft did not have a flight data recorder.
