Indian Wells, Desert Hot Springs, and Coachella Honor Fallen U.S. Military Heroes with Memorial Day Ceremonies
Memorial Day is a time of reflection and remembrance, dedicated to honoring those who died while serving in the U.S. military. Across the Coachella Valley, communities are coming together to pay tribute.
In Indian Wells, a free Memorial Day ceremony is being held from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Indian Wells Golf Resort’s Celebrity Ballroom. Mayor Bruce Whitman will speak, with musical performances from the Palm Springs Air Museum pipes and drum band and singer Christine Love. Pastor Andrew Statesney will deliver an invocation and benediction, offering a solemn tribute to the fallen.
Desert Hot Springs will host its Memorial Day celebrations at Veterans Park, also from 9 to 10 a.m. Highlights include a special Patriot flyover by the Palm Springs Air Museum, a presentation of colors, the national anthem, and a moment of silence. Mayor Scott Mattis and other community leaders will lead the program, which is open and free to the public.
Meanwhile, the Coachella Valley Public Cemetery District is holding a free ceremony at 9 a.m. in Coachella, supported by American Legion Post 739. The event features a flyover, prayers from Deacon Marty Sullivan, performances by the Coachella Valley High School Choir, a flag-folding ceremony, wreath presentations, and a rifle salute to honor the fallen.
As a reminder, many offices and businesses will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day. Local post offices will not deliver mail, and federal and state offices, including the DMV, will be closed. Most banks, financial institutions, public schools, colleges, and courthouses will also be closed for the holiday.
