Palm Springs Residents Honor First Responders After Domestic Terror Attack
It’s been just over a week since a domestic terrorist attack shook the peaceful community of Palm Springs. In the aftermath, the community has rallied—supporting IVF families, helping local businesses recover, and now extending their gratitude to first responders.
NBC Palm Springs’ Caitlyn Kelley reports on one group’s efforts to give back.
Residents of the Fairways community in Palm Springs came together swiftly after the attack, raising funds to create care packages for first responders. Initially focused on assembling just a few boxes, they quickly exceeded their goal, allowing them to contribute $700 to the “Rebuild Palm Springs” fund as well.
“These are the first responder boxes,” one resident explained. “We have four—one for the police station and three for local fire stations.”
For organizer Janet, the motivation was personal and immediate. “When the bomb hit, I’ve lived through 9/11 also, and I needed to do something. That’s just the person I am,” she shared. “I quickly came up with this idea.”
With the boxes ready, the group delivered them to local police and fire stations—a simple yet profound gesture of thanks to the men and women who ran toward danger when disaster struck.
This Memorial Day, Janet and her team are urging the community to pause and recognize the bravery of first responders and military personnel. “When the unthinkable happens, it’s these brave men and women who run toward the danger so the rest of us can be safe,” she said.
Janet’s message to first responders is clear: “Thank you. You guys were so brave, so unexpected for all of us, but especially for you. You ran into real crisis and performed excellence, excellence, excellence. And thank you.”
