President Trump Honors Fallen Heroes at Arlington, Delivers Memorial Day Remarks

President Donald Trump marked the first Memorial Day of his second term with a tribute to the nation’s fallen at Arlington National Cemetery. As Commander-in-Chief, he honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Joined by Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, both military veterans, the president expressed gratitude for the courage and dedication of U.S. service members and their families. “We should never forget even for a moment that freedom is a gift of the highest cost and peace is won at the most precious price,” Trump said.

Vice President Vance added, “The real tragedy of the loss is not in a single moment of suffering, as our Gold Star families know well, but in all the future moments they and their families lost.”

The ceremony, held at the final resting place of more than 400,000 of the nation’s heroes and their family members, followed traditional Memorial Day customs. However, President Trump broke with the typically solemn tone by criticizing his predecessor, former President Joe Biden. In his remarks, he referred to Biden’s term as “four hard years” and earlier in the day posted on social media, calling Biden “incompetent” and making a false claim about undocumented immigrants during Biden’s presidency.

Karin Caifa reports from the White House that while Memorial Day is usually a day of solemn remembrance, this year’s commemoration featured an unusual mix of tribute and pointed political commentary.
