CV Rep's The Beverly Hills Hotel Peace Talks Dazzles Audiences with World Premiere

Joining Desert Entertainment this week were director Randy Brenner and actor Geri-Nikole Love from The Beverly Hills Hotel Peace Talks, the captivating new play now running at CV Rep through Sunday, June 1. Host Fred Roggin shared his enthusiasm for the show, calling it "fantastic" and "the talk of the town."

This world premiere began as a staged reading last year during CV Rep’s Origins series, which features new works. Brenner explained that the play was chosen for full production following an enthusiastic reception, and rehearsals moved swiftly with the cast being “off book” within a week. Love and fellow actor Ali Zahiri reprised their roles from the reading, joined by two new cast members.

The story is based on a real-life controversy surrounding a publicity photo of Omar Sharif and Barbra Streisand for Funny Girl, which sparked political backlash from Israel and Egypt. In the play, representatives from both nations are called to the Beverly Hills Hotel to resolve the dispute—blending fact with playwright Greg Ostrin’s imaginative take on what might have transpired.

Despite the play’s historical context, Brenner and Love noted its striking relevance today. "It’s very timely," Love said. "It shows how history repeats itself." Love’s character, Freddie, serves as the heart of the play, bridging divides and encouraging dialogue between conflicting sides.

While the future of The Beverly Hills Hotel Peace Talks beyond CV Rep is uncertain, the team is hopeful for its continued success. Brenner praised the collaborative process with playwright Ostrin, describing him as "a dream" to work with.

In addition to CV Rep’s hit production, Desert Entertainment highlighted other must-see events in the Coachella Valley. Kevin Ralston’s acclaimed one-man show Deal with the Dragon opens May 29 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. Lea Michele will perform live at the McCallum Theatre on May 30, and disco fans can enjoy Concerts Under the Stars at the Saguaro Hotel on May 31. Rounding out the weekend, Yacht Rock the Dock brings classic hits to the Agua Caliente Resort and Casino in Rancho Mirage.
