Joey Chestnut Breaks Popcorn-Eating World Record on Memorial Day

Competitive eating legend Joey Chestnut has done it again—this time with popcorn. On Memorial Day, Chestnut set a new world record for popcorn-eating during a contest in Terre Haute, Indiana, at the Rural King store.

Chestnut, known for his prowess in hot dog competitions, devoured more than 32 twenty-four-ounce servings of popcorn in just eight minutes, smashing his own previous record by more than four servings.

In preparation for the contest, Chestnut said, “Runners have to run, fighters have to fight, and I have to eat. Every contest is different, so I practice. It’s buttery, and by the end of the contest, I’ll have butter on my face and arms. It’s going to be intense.”

Chestnut also shared his technique for rapid popcorn consumption, involving large handfuls, strategic water intake, and breathing through his nose to avoid inhaling the fluffy kernels.

Breaking the record on Memorial Day made the moment even more special. “It’s a great American holiday. We are celebrating people who have given everything to this country. I’m very happy to be celebrating Memorial Day,” said Chestnut.

Chestnut, who has previously made headlines for his July Fourth hot dog-eating contests, continues to amaze fans with his unique brand of competitive eating.
