Justice Department Investigating UnitedHealth Group Over Medicare Advantage Practices
The U.S. Department of Justice is reportedly investigating UnitedHealth Group for potential fraud tied to its Medicare Advantage business.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the federal probe has been underway since at least last summer and is focused on how the healthcare giant handles its Medicare Advantage operations—a program that provides Medicare benefits through private insurers.
In a statement, UnitedHealth said it had not been informed about the DOJ’s investigation and maintained that it sees no issues with the way its Medicare Advantage program is managed.
The Justice Department has declined to comment.
This is not the only legal scrutiny facing the company. UnitedHealth is also the subject of other investigations, including potential antitrust violations and a separate probe into Medicare billing practices.
UnitedHealth Group is one of the largest health insurers in the U.S., and the outcome of these investigations could have significant implications for the broader healthcare industry.
