Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization Donates $10K to Rebuild Palm Springs Fundraiser

Recovery efforts in Palm Springs are gaining momentum as donations continue pouring in for the Rebuild Palm Springs fundraiser. Wednesday morning, the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization donated $10,000, helping bring the city one step closer to its new goal of $250,000.

It’s been over 10 days since a devastating terrorist attack rocked the city’s core, but residents say the community is standing stronger than ever. “We’ll come back stronger,” one business owner said.

The Rebuild Palm Springs fundraiser, launched last Tuesday by Greater Palm Springs Pride, has already raised over $106,000. Contributions have come from events like Modernism Week, NBC Palm Springs’ drive-thru fundraiser, and now the $10,000 check from the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization.

“We realized that insurance wasn’t going to cover everything because it was a terrorist activity,” said a representative from the organization. “So we knew we had to step up to help close the gap between the cost and what was available.” Tim Schoeffler, a member with the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization said.

Despite the impressive fundraising total so far, Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte emphasized that damages are estimated to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. “Our goal now is $250,000, and the community has had an incredible response." deHarte said.

The businesses affected hope to reopen within the next month, and donations are still being accepted online to support the recovery efforts.
