Hamilton Boy Saves Pregnant Mother’s Life with 911 Call

Hamilton, Ohio (CNN) — A 9-year-old boy from Hamilton, Ohio, is being celebrated as a hero after his quick thinking during a family emergency saved the lives of his pregnant mother and unborn baby sister.

On May 2nd, Oliver Ware found his mother, Nicky Ware, unconscious on the floor just after he got home from school. She was 35 weeks pregnant and suffering from life-threatening complications caused by high blood pressure, which triggered multiple seizures that could have deprived her unborn baby, Riley, of oxygen.

“I heard this big thump,” Oliver recalled. Panicked, he tried to wake his mom by moving her and calling out, “Mom, mom!” With his father, Jeff Ware, still at work, Oliver quickly dialed 911.

In the call, Oliver calmly explained the situation to the emergency operator, even though he was just 9 years old. “I told her everything that was going on. She realized that I was just a kid,” Oliver said.

The 911 dispatcher guided Oliver through the steps to check his mother’s breathing and keep her stable until paramedics arrived. “I was mostly thinking to myself I’ll do anything just to wake my mom up,” he said.

Jeff Ware praised his son’s actions, saying, “The fact that he was able to pick up the phone, know what to do, who to get a hold, that it was key. He had to save mama and his sister. That’s what he did. Like, to me, that’s the definition of a hero.”

Thanks to Oliver’s bravery and composure, Nicky Ware and baby Riley survived the crisis. Doctors confirmed that Oliver’s swift action helped ensure oxygen flow to the baby during the seizures.

“I’ve always wanted a sibling and I was like, it’s finally done!” Oliver shared, expressing his happiness about his baby sister’s safe arrival.

Oliver credits the 911 operator and his grandmother for helping him stay calm, as well as an emergency preparedness class he took at school. His story is a testament to the vital importance of teaching children how to respond in emergencies.
