Palm Springs Car Bombing Damage Tops $12 Million, City Proposes Faster Recovery

PALM SPRINGS, CA — At last night’s Palm Springs City Council meeting, officials gave the first public update since the car bombing attack rocked the city two weeks ago. The total damage from the blast has been estimated at over $12 million.

A total of 56 buildings were evaluated after the incident. Of those, 27 sustained damage, and five were red-tagged as unsafe. The American Reproductive Centers, the fertility clinic at the heart of the attack, faces an estimated rebuilding cost between $5 and $10 million. Other impacted buildings will require between $1 and $2 million for repairs.

In response, Deputy City Manager Marcus Fuller shared that the city is working on establishing a disaster overlay zone. This zone would streamline the recovery process for affected businesses and property owners, expediting key services like permits, licenses, and inspections.

“This is an unprecedented event for our city,” Fuller said. “Our priority is to support businesses and residents as they recover.”

The city is also collaborating with state agencies and private partners to secure additional funding and resources. Officials stressed the importance of community support as recovery efforts continue.

The disaster overlay zone, once approved, is expected to help fast-track rebuilding and restore operations in the affected areas.
