Pop Quiz Fun: Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day and Other Wacky Celebrations
Today’s hashtag holiday calendar brought to you by Inland Empire Health Plan delivered a dose of fun and trivia as we celebrated unique traditions and tested our historical knowledge.
Did you know today, May 29, 2025, is Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day? This quirky tradition dates back over a century when families placed cloth from their bedroom inside their pantry to symbolize fertility and abundance. With the invention of refrigerators, this practice evolved into placing a pillow atop the fridge for good luck.
Today is also National Paperclip Day, commemorating the original 1867 patent. Initially designed to attach tickets to fabric, the humble paperclip has since become a staple in offices worldwide.
The calendar also recognized John F. Kennedy’s birthday—he was born on this day in 1917. While November 22, 1963, is often associated with his assassination, today celebrates his life and contributions.
Our pop quiz segment featured two fun questions. The first challenged viewers to identify the British pop band behind the 1985 hit “Life in a Northern Town,” with the correct answer being The Dream Academy. The second quiz question highlighted local history, asking for the original name of John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in the Coachella Valley. The answer? Indio Community Hospital, which first opened in 1966.
These fun facts and trivia not only kept viewers engaged but also highlighted the mix of history, humor, and local connections.
