A.B. Hernandez places 1st in two out of three CIF events, shares podium with biological female winner

Jurupa Valley High School junior AB Hernandez delivered a strong showing at the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Clovis.
Hernandez took first place in both the triple jump and high jump events.
She also secured second place in the long jump.
Her performance was one of the most notable of the weekend.
The competition came amid heightened public attention around CIF rules for transgender athletes.
Hernandez, who is transgender, was eligible to compete under current California policy.
Days before the meet, CIF announced a new rule allowing the top-performing biological female to share the podium.
As a result, both Hernandez and the runner-up stood in the first-place position and received full team points.
The rule change was intended to recognize biological female athletes without disqualifying trans competitors.
Following the event, the U.S. Department of Justice launched an investigation.
The probe will examine whether California’s policies align with federal Title IX civil rights protections.
CIF officials say they will cooperate fully with the investigation.
