Suspect in Boulder Jewish Event Attack Charged with Federal Hate Crime and 16 Counts of Attempted Murder

A suspect accused of carrying out a targeted attack on a Jewish community event in Boulder, Colorado, has been charged with a federal hate crime and 16 counts of attempted murder. Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, allegedly used incendiary devices—including Molotov cocktails and a makeshift flamethrower—to set people on fire during a weekly walk supporting Israeli hostages held by Hamas. The attack, which took place on Pearl Street, left at least eight people injured, including a Holocaust survivor and a mother-daughter pair.

The FBI has classified the incident as an act of terrorism, and Soliman faces multiple charges, including the federal hate crime, 16 counts of attempted murder, and state felony counts for using explosives or incendiary devices. Federal charging documents indicate that Soliman prepared for the attack by researching online and gathering materials to construct incendiary devices. Witnesses said Soliman shouted “Free Palestine!” and other antisemitic statements during the attack.

Two of the victims were airlifted to the Denver area for treatment, with one reportedly in critical condition. While no fatalities have been reported, authorities remain concerned about the injuries sustained. The Boulder community has been shaken, and Jewish leaders have condemned the attack as part of a rising wave of antisemitic violence in the U.S.

Law enforcement is also investigating Soliman’s immigration status, with officials confirming that he arrived in the U.S. on a B2 visa in 2022, filed for asylum, and later overstayed. The attack follows a recent shooting at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., underscoring growing concerns over targeted violence against Jewish communities.

In response to the attack, security has been increased at Jewish sites nationwide, with additional patrols in cities like Los Angeles and New York. Community leaders have called for stronger security measures and action against hate-fueled violence.
