Doria Wilms Named New Desert Hot Springs City Manager

We have a local alert this evening: Desert Hot Springs has officially named a new city manager. Doria Wilms is stepping into the role after serving as deputy city manager since 2021, with the promotion becoming official at tonight’s City Council meeting.

NBC Palm Springs' Alondra Campos was at City Hall for the announcement. Wilms, a longtime Desert Hot Springs resident and native, has dedicated much of her career to serving her community. She first joined the city manager’s office in 2016, became assistant city manager in 2019, and was promoted to deputy city manager in 2021.

In 2023, Wilms also took on the role of interim city manager after the resignation of Luke Rainey, and once again earlier this year after another leadership departure. Her familiarity with city operations and dedication to Desert Hot Springs have made her a trusted figure within City Hall.

Mayor Scott Matas shared why Wilms was the right choice for the role:
“Living in the community, understanding the community, growing up in the community — if someone from the outside comes in, it takes a while to understand that. Doria’s hitting the ground running. She understands the issues, the departments, and the staff, who I believe respect her tremendously.”

As city manager, Wilms will present the strategic plan for the 2025–2027 term, outlining projects in collaboration with city leaders and residents. She told NBC Palm Springs she’s excited to bring transformative change and lasting impact to her hometown.
