New Development Approved at Indio's Grand Marketplace

There may finally be signs of new life at Indio’s long-struggling Grand Marketplace.

The mall’s owner, The Hagen Company, recently received approval from the Indio Planning Commission to construct two new commercial buildings along Highway 111. The buildings are part of an early phase in what the company hopes will become a broader redevelopment effort for the retail center.

At the planning meeting, Hagen Company representatives outlined their vision to attract a diverse mix of tenants—ranging from retail shops and restaurants to medical offices. They also suggested the possibility of relocating some of the few remaining tenants from inside the mall to the new structures.

While a construction timeline has not been announced, both city officials and residents are cautiously optimistic. Many are watching closely, hoping this effort could finally signal a turnaround for the aging retail space.
