French Bulldog Dies in Crate; Las Vegas Woman Faces Felony Animal Abuse Charge
Tragedy struck in Las Vegas over the weekend as a 3-year-old French bulldog named Jazzy died after being left in a crate for hours in sweltering heat. Metro Police say the dog’s owner, Olivia Underwood, showed “no care for her at all,” and she now faces a felony animal abuse charge.
According to the police report, Underwood left her home around 5:45 p.m. Friday for a 12-hour shift at UMC and didn’t return until about 7 a.m. Saturday. She changed into sleeping clothes and went to bed without checking on Jazzy.
Throughout the morning, neighbors—who later provided video evidence—witnessed Jazzy barking, howling, and desperately trying to escape her crate. Temperatures rose quickly.
Around 1 p.m., neighbors entered the backyard through an unlocked gate and attempted to resuscitate the dog. 911 recordings confirm that CPR was attempted, but by the time help arrived, it was too late.
When one of Underwood’s children alerted her to the people in their yard, she awoke and reportedly became hysterical, yelling at neighbors to leave. She was arrested later that day.
This wasn’t Underwood’s first encounter with animal protection services. Records show she had two prior complaints, including one from 2016 for leaving a pitbull outside in 35-degree weather.
The heartbreaking loss of Jazzy now serves as a sobering reminder of the responsibilities of pet ownership—especially during extreme weather.
